Vineyards, Wineries and Olives on Waiheke Island

With hot, dry summers and stony soils, Waiheke is home to boutique wineries that produce unique, high quality wines based on cabernet sauvignon, merlot, malbec, cabernet franc and the recent move into chardonnay grape varieties.

Visitors to Waiheke can either visit wineries at their leisure, or take a vineyard tour.

Kennedy Point Vineyard and Olive Grove

Established in 1996 on 13.5 acres at Kennedy Point. The property and grapes from three neighboring vineyards provide them with 10 acres of grape land. The home vineyard is planted with a variety of olive trees that are blended into their estate bottled olive oil.

Discovered in 1769 and over 200 years in the making - this is classic wine of the new world. With 106 parcels of vines dotted over some of the bravest sites imaginable, Man O War Vineyards is now open to the public via a tasting room (possibly the world's smallest cellar door!) The first plantings at Mudbrick were in 1992 by Nick and Robyn Jones, who still own and operate the property today. The vineyards are now on two different sites: the beautiful Mudbrick Vineyard and restaurant at Church Bay and Shepherds Point Vineyard at Onetangi.

Rangihoua Estate had its inaugural harvest in 1997 and this was the first time that olive oil had been made on Waiheke Island. It is now a leading brand in Extra Virgin Olive Oils, and produces the most prolific award-winning Extra Virgin Olive Oils in New Zealand.
